Childbirth (with no additional benefits)

"A Childbirth and Childcare Lump-Sum Grant" is paid when an insured person gives birth. "A Dependents' Childbirth and Childcare Lump-Sum Grant" is paid when a dependent family member gives birth. Don't forget to add the newborn as a dependent in these cases.

When using the system of direct payment of Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant to medical institutions

Please submit documents agreeing to use the system to the medical care institution or other facilities where you plan to give birth.
(You do not have to complete any procedures with respect to the Health Insurance Society. For details, please contact the medical care institution or other facility where you plan to give birth.)

When using the system of receipt of the Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant directly by the medical institutions on your behalf

If you would like to use the system of receipt of the Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant directly by the medical institutions on your behalf, submit the following application to the Health Insurance Society in advance.

If you paid the entire amount of childbirth expenses to the medical care institution

Submit the following application to the Health Insurance Society if you have not used the system of direct payment of Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant to medical institutions or the system of receipt of the Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant directly by the medical institutions on your behalf or you have given birth overseas.

    (documents demonstrating that you have not concluded a proxy agreement with the medical care institution or other facility on use of the system of direct payment of Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant to medical institutions and indicating the name of the Health Insurance Society as application recipient)
  • Copies of receipts for and details of childbirth expenses
    (documents demonstrating that you have not concluded a proxy agreement with the medical care institution or other facility on use of the system of direct payment of Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant to medical institutions and, if giving birth under the medical administration of an institution that is a member of the maternity medical care compensation scheme, bearing a stamp certifying that fact)

  • Documents issued by the overseas medical care institution or other facility where the birth took place (birth certificate, receipts, etc.)
